This Thanksgiving, we’d like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to friends and clients who have supported us in our business. We are seven years in, and we are grateful that we are able to do what we do, so thank you! Best wishes to all as we enter into the holiday season.
Local Treasure :: The Urban Farmhouse
Are you looking for a small home furnishings shop that’s been carefully edited so it’s like nothing else around? Look no further than The Urban Farmhouse, in Arlington. Owner June Tait mixes old with new to provide not only furniture, but also lighting, pillows, art, and gift ideas. Make sure to stop in and check it out!
The Urban Farmhouse is located at 5140 Wilson Boulevard, downstairs from Covet Arlington. Here’s the website.
Before/After :: A Room That’s Out of This World
Our mission? To transform a plain room into something our budding space adventure duo would be thrilled to call their home. We first had the room painted a nice navy blue, then added an orbital ceiling fixture and a string of lights along the top. The boys worked on the decals which outline the solar system, complete with stars, constellations, and abundant trivia details.
Here’s the room before we got started.
What I’m Reading : Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
Looking for a good read this fall? You’ve just found it! It’s written by a first time novelist from Scotland. It’s a sweet, funny and currently important book about a woman learning to boldly lead her life without baggage. Enjoy!
Local Treasure :: Covet Arlington
This sweet shop is beautifully curated with goods that feature local artists and makers — the perfect spot to grab a gift for your sister or best girlfriend.
It’s located at 5140 Wilson Boulevard, upstairs from The Urban Farmhouse. Here’s the website.
Before/After :: Pretty in Pink (and Purple!)
We are thrilled to show off this sweet jewel of a bedroom, shared by a pair of adorable little girls. We started with a blank slate, and a new set of white furniture. To it we added some adorable curtain panels, some sparkly lights, a long white mirror, a sweet chalk-painted bookcase, a gorgeous ceiling fixture, and a round rug that pulls everything together!
House Tour :: An Artist’s Quirky Home
Today, we are thrilled to feature a beautiful home in Port Jefferson, New York. Rochelle has lived here for over 20 years and has made it fully hers. We love the artfully arranged personal effects and the effusive use of artwork! There is a great story in every corner of the house. It’s a cozy and imaginative place to spend time with friends or quiet time alone.
Before/After :: A Pretty Dining Room
What changed here? Everything but the rug. And we are still searching for the perfect piece of artwork! This room suffered from heavy, dark window treatments and a dated wallpaper scheme. We lightened it all up with curtain panels hung just below the crown moulding and the prettiest light fixtures. It also helps that the homeowners inherited a unique set of furniture that makes this room really stand out.

Make Your Own Pesto!
I found a fantastic arugula pesto recipe last month in Better Homes and Gardens that I want to pass along to you! It’s nice to have in the fridge for a quick pasta meal, but can be used to flavor all kinds of foods : roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, sandwiches, etc.
2 cloves of garlic
6 cups arugula
1 cup fresh basil leaves
1 cup toasted walnuts – I use sunflower seeds due to a nut allergy. Works great!
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
In a food processor process garlic until chopped. Add arugula and basil; process until minced. Add walnuts, olive oil, cheese, lemon juice, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. black pepper. Process until smooth and creamy. Makes 1 and 2/3 cups. Refrigerate up to 5 days.
