This is an easy project that people of all ages (and sizes!) can enjoy. And it costs next to nothing. You can buy a building product called Homasote at Home Depot (see bar code label below) and have them cut it into a custom size for you right there in the store. We bought ours as a 4ft by 8ft sheet for less than $25, and had it cut into three different sizes to make three different pinboards …. one we will highlight here. I also had some leftover fabric from another project, but you can easily find a fabric remnant at most fabric stores or online.
We like to wrap the homasote with fabric after the board is screwed into the wall so that you can’t see the screws. You need two people to line up the fabric and make sure it’s straight (especially when it’s a stripe like this), then start pinning it in place with pushpins or thumbtacks. You can also trim the side with a thin ribbon if you’d like, or run a ribbon back and forth along the board so that you can tuck cards into it. The sky’s the limit!
