This project was a head-to-toe aesthetic update for a sweet couple that wanted an updated look. The only elements to remain at the end are the upright piano, the family heirloom rug, and some favorite art and lamps.
The first thing we did was to paint the space in a pretty updated neutral color. We used Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore. Old furniture was donated and the valances at the window were removed. We selected new furniture and came up with a different furniture layout that best uses the room’s shape and size. New curtain panels and an updated ceiling light (a crisp flush mount drum fixture) complete the look.
You can immediately see the difference once the room is painted. The grey tone of the new paint helps to update the feel of the room.
All items except the side tables and the original large blue/white lamps were donated to charity. The beautiful rug remains and is the focal point for the new furniture arrangement. The new curtains open wide to let all the natural light in, even when the fixtures are turned off.
