This clever paint technique can be used universally, but we especially like it on a feature wall. It really ups the “luxe factor”.
We chose Hollingsworth Green from Benjamin Moore (HC-141) for this dining room renovation. The homeowners were looking for an accent wall but didn’t necessarily want to use a different color. This treatment very simply sets up this wall as the one to look at as you enter the room. (The happy couple eventually intends to mount a large mirror on the wall.
To achieve this look, paint the room with the color and finish of your choice. We prefer eggshell on most interior walls. Then comes the labor-intensive part: tape off the stripes to the width that you would like. A 6-8 wide stripe looks best. Then apply polyurethane to every other stripe. It mimics the look of a tone-on-tone sateen striped sheet!
Happy painting.
