First step: figure out the overall plan for the room. This one had nothing in it! So we needed mattress, box spring, metal bed frame .. plus some furniture and bedding, and let’s not forget a fresh coat of paint and some art on the wall.
We ran over to our favorite local vintage furniture place and found a pair of nightstands and a matching dresser, with dimensions that were perfect for the room. Bonus: solid maple! All for $600.
We had a mattress and box spring delivered with a stock metal frame. They can always add a headboard or a different frame down the road, but this suited their needs for now. We found a pair of lamps at Home Goods, along the striped bedding, which provided the “jumping-off point” for the rest of the room. Remember, there are lots of possible paint colors, but it’s best to start with something like bedding first … that helps to dictate the paint color that will work best for the room.
We chose a color called Sylvan Mist from the Benjamin Moore Color Stories fan deck. It’s a very subtle blue/green color that we find to be quite calming. Ideal for a bedroom!
We got that mirror in the clearance section at Home Goods for $25! Then we hit Target for bed pillows, bed skirt, mattress pad, etc.
Here’s a few pics of the room, in progress:
The room received a fresh coat of paint and we hung stuff on the walls! Viola. The final picture shows the bed made, but without the striped coverlet.
