We recently sat down with Kristen Alcorta, the owner of Pursuing Vintage, to pick her brain and educate us on her brand. She’s located at 260 West Broad Street in the heart of Falls Church, and is open the second weekend of the month, and by appointment. Visit her website for more information.
How did you get started? Why vintage?
I guess it started as an escape! I found that I loved the hunt – searching for something unique in antique stores and estate sales. Pretty soon I realized that I was bringing home pieces that were “on-trend”. I was seeing the same pieces I was bringing home on the latest blogs and in shelter magazines. I found that I had an eye for vintage pieces that could be incorporated into current interior design.
When did you open your shop?
I opened my shop on Etsy in 2013. I opened the Falls Church boutique this spring. 2017 has been a whirlwind of Pursuing Vintage excitement for me and my family!
I have kept the Etsy shop open so clients can shop anytime, and there is more available in the boutique! You can reach the online Etsy shop through www.pursuingvintage.com.
How do you find things for your inventory?
I can’t give away all of my secrets! But I will say that estate sales continue to be my favorite weekend escape!
What time period or “look” do you concentrate on?
I don’t have a specific time period, however I would define my “look” or style as vintage chic. I’m drawn to Asian styles, bright colors, interesting textures, and lots of brass and glass! Some of my favorite pieces to find are pieces with faux bamboo detail, Chinese blue and white porcelain, abstract art, vintage fine china, and brass accessories.
