I still can’t believe that summer has come to and end – but I am preparing for the school year :: Getting my desk/command central ready as well as putting together a good supply space for the kids. I have two desks in the kitchen, one of which I use for sorting mail, dealing with paperwork and using the computer. The other was supposed to be used as the kids homework space. But they are not really using it as such, they each have a desk elsewhere – and of course mostly end up using the dining room table to do their homework! So I am making the second desk in the kitchen a homework supply space. I’ll let you know how it works out.
For my desk I started by taking everything off and cleaning it with a damp cloth.
Then put back only the items I need and use on the desk.
I think it is important to have a couple of junk drawers or spaces. Mine is the little basket on my desk. I shove things in there that I want to have handy but don’t necessarily know when I will need them. I know what is in there for the most part.
Here is where I put all the kids paperwork for school and sports. Each one has a clipboard. Makes papers easy to reach and put away. If you are really crafty you can cover them in pretty paper. I keep meaning to . . .
I also have little hooks that I use to hang clipped papers to have at the ready.
Here is my supply station : computer to be moved to the bedroom desk.
These are some of my favorite organizational finds! From The Container Store. Holds a lot of papers and is so easy to use. I have them stacked in a basket on the floor under the desk. To keep your space neat and organized takes work. There is no magic pill. However if you discipline yourself to working on any habitually messy place for 10-15 minutes a day until it is really under control you will have an organized area with which to work. And it is worth it.
